What's On this May Bank Holiday in Chichester

What are your plans for the Bank Holiday weekend? Chichester is the place to be! The sun is due to be with us (fingers crossed) and there's loads on to keep you busy.

Here is our run down of the key events taking place this weekend:

Weald and Download Living Museum

Food Festival

Saturday 5th, Sunday 6th and Monday 7th May, 10.30am – 5pm.

The very best of the south east’s produce – from heritage production methods to the modern day – will be showcased at our special spring event.

Enjoy free cookery demonstrations and short talks, shop from vendors selling local produce, watch demonstrations and crafts, learn about historic food and drink in our collection of rescued historic houses, plus much more. There will be lots of tasty samples to try before you buy!



Amberley Museum

Wood for the Trees

Saturday 5th May

This new event for 2018 will be showcasing wood associated heritage crafts at the Museum. Come and speak to the craftspeople and watch them demonstrate their skills.

Classic Motorcycles Day

Sunday 6th May

Our Motorcycle show will host a wide cross-section of machines for the education and entertainment of the public. This show aims to celebrate the history of British Motorcycling with Motorcycles up to 1990. This is a real treat for all bike fans.




Opening Saturday

Saturday 5th May

The 2018 horseracing season gets underway with our Opening Saturday raceday. Come and celebrate the ‘sport of kings’ with some thrilling racing at the world's most beautiful racecourse.



Tangmere Military Aviation Museum

Scale Model Show

Saturday 5th May, 10am until 5pm

The Museum in collaboration with the Tangmere Sector Modellers Club are holding a Scale Model Show on Saturday 5 May from 1000 until 1700 hours. Nine modelling clubs are attending to exhibit their work and three modelling trade stands will also be present.

Normal admission prices apply on the day with no extra charge to see the show.



Chichester Open Studios Art Trail

Saturday 5th, Sunday 6th and Monday 7th May

From the top of the South Downs, through the valleys, down to the sea, along the coast and into the city, local artists & makers welcome you to their studios. Painters, printmakers, potters, weavers, photographers, jewellers, sculptors, textile artists, glass workers, calligraphers, furniture makers, metal workers, dressmakers, illustrators, wood turners ...all ready to share their work and creative practice with you.



Fishbourne Roman Palace

Mosaic Mayhem

Monday 7th May

Join us for a day of enjoyment and exploration focusing on the most famous aspect of the site – the stunning mosaic floors.  This special Mosaic Mayhem! event gives visitors of all ages a chance to find out more about mosaics, how they are designed and made, and to try some mosaic making for themselves.



Uppark House and Gardens

Women of Uppark Season - Music from Kirsty Merryn

Monday 7th May

Kirsty Merryn joins us to celebrate the Women of Uppark with live music in the gardens. Normal admission prices apply. This event may have to be cancelled if poor weather is forecast.



South Downs Planetarium

Seven Wonders of the Solar System

Monday 7th May

Come to the Planetarium for a flight of fancy to explore our planetary neighbours. From the searing surface of our Sun, we head past beautiful blue Earth to the grandest volcanoes and most spectacular canyons in the Solar System, then on to some quite remarkable moons of Jupiter, and finally to the glorious rings of Saturn, and yet more remarkable moons.
