Bank Holiday Weekend Round Up
Welcome to the bank holiday weekend! There's so much going on this weekend and flowing into half term next week. What will you decide to do? Here's our top pick of your options:
Goodwood Festival of Food and Racing
Saturday 26th May, 11.30 - 18.30
This fabulous three-day race meeting invites you to watch exhilarating horseracing, taste the finest local and national artisan foods, listen to expert foodies at our table top encounters and experience hands-on activities - all whilst enjoying the spring-time, countryside air.
The Siege at Arundel Castle
Saturday 26th - Monday 28th
It is 1474 and England's new king Edward IV has secured the throne during the wars of the Roses. The scenario is that a French raiding party has seized the castle. The Earl of Arundel is with the king and the English must take the castle back. Although not based on a real siege, visitors will experience aspects of a 15th century siege, with fully armoured knights fighting, replica cannons firing and a tented encampment.
Traditional Craft Weekend at Amberley
Saturday 26th - Monday 28th
Over the May Bank Holiday we are hosting our annual ‘Traditional Crafts Market’. With a large range of crafts from jewellery making, glass painting to traditional wood crafts. Some craftspeople will also be demonstrating their skills and techniques. On the Saturday and Sunday there will also be visiting Morris Dancers to entertain, and fun and games with the Mascot races on the Monday. Enjoy a ride on our narrow gauge railway, with one of our resident steam trains running on this day.
Springtime Stars, Moons and Planets at the South Downs Planetarium
Sunday 27th May 15:30 - 16:30
On late Winter and early Springtime evenings - if the skies are clear - we can see some magnificent star patterns including Orion, the Hunter, and his retinue. There is also a fine display of planets: Mercury may be glimpsed low down in the south-western sky after sunset during the first week of April, trailed briefly by red planet Mars.
