Goodwood Estate

Located in the South of the UK and less than two hours journey from London, Goodwood Estate can be found nestled in the beautiful hills of the South Downs National Park in West Sussex. The 12,000 acre estate has been owned by the Dukes of Richmond since 1697 and has become famous for three of the biggest events in the social and sporting calendar: the Festival of Speed, the Qatar Goodwood Festival and Goodwood Revival. Accommodation is hard to come by over Goodwood events so here are some suggestions you can try.

Where is Goodwood?

Goodwood is located just outside Chichester, only 60 miles from London, 30 miles from Brighton and Southampton, making it the ideal day trip or mini-break.

Things to do at Goodwood

The Goodwood Estate is home to the beautiful Goodwood House, the luxurious Goodwood Hotel, famous Goodwood Motor Circuit, esteemed Goodwood Racecourse, two championship 18-hole golf courses, the historically significant Goodwood Aerodrome and so much more.

Whether you’re looking for driving experiences, flying experiences, afternoon tea, a tour of Goodwood House, to play golf or to simply visit the Goodwood Farm Shop, Goodwood has it all. What’s more, showcasing all that is great about stately homes in England, the Goodwood name is synonymous with several fantastic events.

Goodwood Annual Events

There’s an event for everyone at Goodwood – from the delight and thrill of the Festival of Speed to the nostalgia of Goodwood Revival, featuring hundreds of historic cars in all their glory.

Or, why not enjoy one of Goodwood’s horse racing events? With 19 race days a year, from the world-famous five-day Qatar Goodwood Festival and Family Race Days to Goodwood’s Three Friday Nights – ideal for those who like to party – there’s a race event to suit every passion.

Launched in 2022, Goodwoof launched is a doggie focused event for the whole family featuring competitions; wellness workshops; talks from key experts; free-of-charge have-a-go activities; Field & Trail demonstrations plus treats and plenty of play.

Goodwood Experiences

If you want an experience that’s more personal, you can hone your driving technique at a Goodwood Track Day, or why not bring your dream of becoming a racing driver to life by participating in a Goodwood driving experience.

You can even learn how to fly a plane at Goodwood flying school.

Goodwood Home Farm

The Goodwood Home Farm has been providing food for the estate for over three hundred years. Goodwood's organic produce -  meat, dairy, beer and gin - are available from the Farm Shop and online.

Dining at Goodwood

A wide variety of dining establishments are on the estate, there's something to suit every occasion.

Farmer, Butcher, Chef is located yards from Home Farm and epitomises the field to fork ethos which ensures most diners will have travelled farther than their food.

Goodwood Bar & Grill's seasonal menu depends on what is available from Home Farm and other local suppliers.

The Kennels Bar & Restaurant is a lively, relaxed restaurant in a grand setting. Visit the bar for a glass of  sparkling Sussex, a cocktail made from the Estate's Levin Down gin, or a cup of coffee en route from a dog walk.

Motor Circuit Café overlooks the track and is open for breakfast or lunch. View the motor track diary for what will be on track during your visit.

Aerodrome Café has plenty of indoor and outdoor seating available to enjoy views of the grass runway and motor circuit whilst enjoying a spot of lunch or a cup of tea.

Goodwood Sports

Golf: choose between two 18-hole courses - the more challenging Downs Course or the gentler option of the Park. 

The Flying School teaches and trains would-be and current pilots. Courses and lessons are available for all ages and abilities. 

Shooting: simulated game shooting and clay shooting are both on offer.

Cycling: The race track is open for cycling for the whole family on certain Sundays throughout the year from 10 am - 4 pm. The two-and-a-half mile circuit is a safe environment, away from traffic and uneven road surfaces. Click here to book.

Motorsports: there are three flagship racing events a year: Members' Meeting in April, Festival of Speed in July and the Goodwood Revival in September.

Horse racing: enjoy 19 race days a year within the magnificent setting of the South Downs.

Goodwoof

The ultimate day out for dogs (and their humans). This two day event runs annually in May.

Walking at Goodwood

Explore the estate with two mapped walking routes.

The blue 1.5km route starts at the Goodwood Hotel and ends at The Kennels.

The red 2.65km route also starts at the Hotel, taking you through the grounds of Goodwood House and looping around via Seeley Copse woodland. The initial part of this walk is buggy and wheelchair accessible.

Goodwood House

Book a tour to see the splendid Regency era State Apartments with their outstanding art collection, followed by a delicious afternoon tea in the magnificent Ballroom.

Goodwood Hotel

Enjoy a comfortable yet sustainable stay at the biomass-powered Goodwood Hotel. There is a pool, gym and tennis facilities available to use by hotel guests, As a dog friendly hotel, your canine companion will have a comfy bed, dog bowl and delicious treats as part of their stay. 

The Pheasantry Holiday Cottage

The Pheasantry is a 3-bedroom cottage - perfect for families, couples and their four-legged friends in the heart of the Goodwood Estate. Guests can enjoy full access to the leisure facilities at The Goodwood Hotel and Health Club, with an indoor swimming pool and two golf courses. Guests are also welcome to use The Kennels, Goodwood's private members club.
