The striking image of the Halnaker Windmill is an iconic part of the scenery around Chichester.  To enable more people to visit this recently restored landmark, Boxgrove Parish Council has introduced a new, signed ‘Windmill Trail’ starting from Boxgrove Village Hall Car Park and the bus stops at the Halnaker crossroads.

The fully signed trail leads walkers through the lanes of Boxgrove, onto Halnaker, then onto footpaths skirting the Tinwood Estate, before crossing onto Mill Lane – the often referred to ‘Tunnel of Trees’ - before bearing left to make the climb of 128m up Halnaker Hill itself, to the Windmill and spectacular views across the countryside and on a clear day, the sea.

As walkers make their way back, they can stop for refreshments at the advantageously placed Anglesey Arms Public House, or the Boxgrove Community Shop & Café

Talk: Sharon Wright - Those Magnificent Women In Their Flying Machines

chawtonhouse.org/whats-on/talk-sharon-wright-those-magnificent-women-in-their-flying-machines/
More than a century before the first aeroplane Georgian women were heading for the heavens in crazy, inspired contraptions that could bring death or glory and all too often, both. In 1783, humans learned how to fly with the invention of the hot air balloon. Jane Austen was eight years old when the ‘Balloonomania’ craze swept through eighteenth-century fashion, science and showbiz.
