Butser Ancient Farm is a unique experimental archaeology site nestled into the rolling countryside of the South Downs National Park. Featuring reconstructions of ancient homes from the Stone Age, Iron Age, Roman and Anglo Saxon periods, the farm welcomes visitors and education groups throughout the year to explore the ancient past.

The farm is internationally famous and appears frequently in documentaries and feature films, most recently Horrible Histories: The Movie, Britannia, Digging up Britain’s Past and Mystic Britain.

There is always something new to see, with ongoing exciting collaborations and building projects bringing the past to life. The farm is also home to rare-breed animals including Manx Loaghtan sheep and English goats and they grow and harvest endangered crops from prehistory.

Butser have a thriving schedule of events, ancient skills workshops and family activities throughout the year, from Celtic festivals and storytelling evenings to bronze casting and foraging workshops, and all proceeds from visits go to support their educational and research work.
