History

Arundel’s history begins in Roman and Saxon times as an inland port and important market town. The skyline is now dominated by the gothic Arundel Cathedral and majestic Arundel Castle, which is the seat of The Dukes of Norfolk,set in 40 acres of sweeping grounds and gardens. Arundel Castle, parts of which date back to 1068, is open to visitors seasonally.

Arundel is a real treat for enthusiastic food lovers – from the regular monthly farmers’ market and shops selling fresh local produce, to some of the best restaurants, cafes and pubs in the

Activities

Arundel not only has several major annual events but hundreds of other activities take place throughout the year.  The town is full of musicians and in the evenings, the pubs offer music from many genres. Arundel is a hot bed of artists and there are usually various exhibitions in the galleries and workshops to be found.  There are many attractions throughout the town - pitch and putt in Mill Road, Murder Mystery nights at the Jailhouse and Cinema Nights at the Town Hall. May/June   For over 100 years, Arundel Cathedral has celebrated the feast of Corpus Christi with a festival of flowers held six weeks after Easter. This includes a magnificent carpet of flowers in the Cathedral

Arundel By Candlelight

December  The historic streets are closed to traffic to accommodate the thousands who flock here every year. Highlights include the lantern-lit Nativity procession, live music, Father Christmas and stalls.
